About this test

This panel measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood against 80 of the most common triggers grouped into food allergens (milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nuts, shellfish, fish) and inhalant or environmental allergens (house-dust mite, pollens from grasses, trees and weeds, mould spores, cat and dog dander, cockroach). When the immune system mistakes a harmless substance for a threat, it makes IgE antibodies against it; a raised result for a particular allergen tells your doctor your body is sensitised to it. Doctors order this profile when symptoms point to allergy but the culprit is unclear — recurrent sneezing, a blocked or runny nose and itchy eyes (allergic rhinitis), wheeze or cough suggesting asthma, chronic hives, eczema flares, or reactions after eating that range from mouth tingling to swelling.
