About this test

This combined rapid test detects three markers of dengue infection in a single sample: NS1 antigen (positive earliest, from day 1 to day 7 of fever), IgM antibody (rises from day 4 onward and confirms a recent active infection), and IgG antibody (indicates past or secondary infection — important because second dengue episodes carry a higher risk of severe disease). Dengue is the single most important monsoon-season febrile illness in Nepal, and any patient with sudden high fever, severe body aches, retro-orbital pain, rash, or low platelets should be tested. Early diagnosis is critical: it tells the doctor to monitor for warning signs (worsening abdominal pain, bleeding gums, restlessness) and to plan timely fluid management. A negative result in the first 24 hours of fever does not exclude dengue — the test should be repeated 48–72 hours later if symptoms persist.
