About this test
Serum sodium and potassium are the two electrolytes that keep nerves firing, muscles contracting, the heart beating in rhythm, and fluid balance steady. Even small shifts can produce serious symptoms — confusion, severe weakness, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, and in extreme cases seizures or cardiac arrest. The NaK panel is one of the most common urgent tests in any clinic.
