Food Allergen Panel (20) Test in Kathmandu
Same Day turnaround at Peoples Diagnostics Laboratory & Clinic, Sanobharang. Walk in 7AMโ8PM, or pre-book via WhatsApp.
About this test
This panel measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood against twenty common dietary triggers in a single sample, typically covering cow's milk, egg white and yolk, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nuts, fish, shellfish and prawn, sesame, and a selection of fruits and vegetables relevant to local diets. When the immune system mistakes a harmless food protein for a threat, it produces IgE directed against that protein; on later exposure these antibodies trigger histamine release, producing the hives, lip and facial swelling, itching, vomiting, abdominal cramps, wheeze, or in severe cases anaphylaxis that bring patients to the clinic. A doctor usually orders this test after one or more reactions where the culprit is unclear, when a child has eczema or asthma alongside suspected food intolerance, or to confirm or exclude a specific food before reintroducing it. Each allergen is graded from negative through to a high class, which indicates the strength of sensitisation rather than the severity of any future reaction. Importantly, a raised IgE shows sensitisation only โ many people test positive to foods they eat without trouble โ so results must always be read against your actual symptom history and the timing of reactions, and never used alone to impose lifelong dietary restrictions. It is particularly useful here for distinguishing true allergy from the very common non-allergic intolerances and food aversions, and for guiding safe weaning in infants with a strong family history of allergy. Where the picture stays uncertain, your doctor may recommend a supervised oral food challenge as the definitive next step.
