About this test
The HIV I & II Rapid test screens for antibodies to both major strains of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It is the standard, confidential, walk-in test used worldwide for routine screening, antenatal care, pre-surgical workups, post-exposure assessment, and any patient with persistent fever, weight loss, recurrent thrush, or unexplained low blood counts. Modern rapid tests detect HIV reliably from about 3 weeks after exposure, but for full diagnostic certainty after a possible exposure, a repeat at 3 months is recommended (the "window period"). Results are treated as strictly private at our clinic — the only people who see them are the patient and the consultant. A reactive (positive) screen is always confirmed with a second-line laboratory test before any clinical action is taken. Catching HIV early today means decades of healthy life on a once-daily tablet.
