Biopsy, Small Specimen Test in Kathmandu

About this test
When your doctor removes a small piece of tissue โ a skin punch, an endoscopic pinch from the stomach or colon, a cervical or nasal sample, a needle core, or a tiny lump โ that fragment comes to us for histopathological examination, and this report is what gives the tissue a name. The specimen is fixed in formalin, processed overnight into wax, cut into sections only a few microns thick, stained, and studied under the microscope by a consultant pathologist. From this we can tell whether the tissue is normal, inflamed, infected, benign, pre-cancerous, or malignant, and we describe the pattern, grade, and margins where relevant. Doctors order a small-specimen biopsy when a clinical examination, scan, or endoscopy shows something that needs a definite tissue diagnosis rather than a guess โ a non-healing ulcer or skin lesion, a suspicious mole, chronic gastritis with possible Helicobacter, coeliac-type symptoms, an abnormal cervical smear, or any growth that could be a tumour. In Nepal, biopsies also remain central to diagnosing tuberculosis, which can affect lymph nodes, skin, and the gut and often mimics cancer; special stains for acid-fast bacilli are added when the picture suggests it. The findings are interpreted alongside your symptoms, imaging, and sometimes further immunohistochemistry. A biopsy result is one of the most decisive tests in medicine, so we take the full reporting time to be accurate; please discuss the report with your treating doctor, who will plan any treatment based on it.
