Biopsy, Very Large Test in Kathmandu
7th Working Day turnaround at Peoples Diagnostics Laboratory & Clinic, Sanobharang. Walk in 7AMโ8PM, or pre-book via WhatsApp.
About this test
This is the histopathological examination of a very large tissue specimen โ typically a whole organ or a major surgical resection such as a mastectomy, hysterectomy, colectomy segment, kidney, lung lobe, or a sizeable tumour removed with surrounding margins. Unlike a small needle core or punch sample, a specimen of this size demands extensive handling: the pathologist first inspects and measures it, paints the surgical margins with ink, photographs and describes the cut surfaces, then submits many carefully mapped blocks for processing into microscope slides. Examined under the microscope, the tissue reveals the precise nature of a lesion โ whether it is benign or malignant, its exact type and grade, how deeply it has invaded, whether it has reached lymphatic or blood vessels, the number of involved lymph nodes, and crucially whether the cancer has been completely removed (clear margins) or extends to the cut edge. These findings drive the cancer stage and decide whether further surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy is needed. Your surgeon orders this examination after any major operation to remove a confirmed or suspected tumour, or an organ damaged by chronic disease. The seven-working-day turnaround reflects the genuine work involved: large specimens need prolonged formalin fixation and multiple tissue blocks, and complex cases often require additional special stains or immunohistochemistry before a final, reliable report can be issued โ a delay that protects accuracy. The report is read alongside your imaging, blood markers, and the multidisciplinary tumour-board discussion that follows.
