About this test
A Complete Blood Count is the workhorse of laboratory medicine — almost every doctor's visit that ends with a blood draw includes it. The test measures three families of blood cells and several derived values: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, haemoglobin, haematocrit, MCV/MCH/MCHC, and a five-part differential white-cell count. From a single tube of blood it can flag anaemia (low haemoglobin), infection (raised neutrophils), viral illness (raised lymphocytes), allergy or parasites (raised eosinophils), bleeding risk (low platelets), and many bone-marrow issues that present with no symptoms at all. It is the standard screening test in Nepal for women of reproductive age (iron-deficiency anaemia is very common), at the start of pregnancy, before any surgery, during chronic-disease follow-up, and during any episode of unexplained fatigue, frequent infections, or easy bruising.
